Hello Drummers and Dancers --
A special celebration for the opening of a new nature trail that was created by Dan Shea of SpIN (Spirit In Nature). Here's the scoop:
WHAT: SpIN Pathway Opening Celebration
WHEN: Saturday, May 10th from 1pm to around 5:30pm
WHERE: Packard Manse, 583 Plain Street, Stoughton, MA 02072
HOW MUCH: Free (food donation for potluck)
WHO: Anyone who likes combining nature, earth-based spirituality and drumming. This is a family-friendly event that welcomes all ages. For those people who have been to SpIN events at Crystal Spring in Plainville or Cuvilly in Ipswitch, you'll find this gathering will be very similar and just as enjoyable. Bring your own drum and a folding chair or borrow one of the extra drums that DFOA will supply.
Schedule:
1pm - Buddhist chanting
2pm - Silent path walk along woodland trail
3pm - Potluck meal and social time
4pm - Drum circle
For more details and/or driving directions, check out the DFOA website at www.DrumsForOneAndAll.com
I'd also like to look down the road another week to another important event that is being hosted by the members of Osiris And Triple Goddess, a Rhode Island based dance troupe that specializes in many forms of bellydance. They have created a benefit intended to raise money for UNICEF to assist women and children affected by the violence in Darfur, Sudan. Although the emphasis is on dance, I have been invited to lead a drum circle that will be open for anyone to play in or dance to. Here are the particulars:
WHAT: Dancing For Darfur Benefit
WHEN: Sunday, May 18th, starting at noon
WHERE: American Legion Hall, 830 Willett Ave, Riverside, RI 02915
HOW MUCH:
WHO: Anyone who is a) into belly dance, b) likes world music, c) wants drum for the dancers d) wants to help support a worthy cause.
Schedule:
Noon - Yoga workshop - Free
1pm - Belly dance workshop given by Sabrina - $20 (www.bellydancersabrina.com)
3pm - Belly dance performances - $15 (variety of local dancers, including OTG)
4pm - Drumming/dancing circle - combined with cost of performances
Note the the costs are based on "day of show". Discounts are available if tickets are purchased before May 15th.
For more information, check the DFOA website or contact OTG at osiris3goddess@gmail.com.
I hope to see you at one or both of these wonderful events -- Dave C.
